Title:  Dropout Rates in the United States: 1989
Description: This National dropout report, mandated by Congress under P.L. 100-297, will use data from CPS, HS&B, NELS:88, and NHES to report the latest dropout statistics available to NCES. Both dropout and retention rates will be reported in this document which will be presented to Congress on the second Tuesday after Labor Day. Two types of dropout rates, event and status, will be calculated from the October CPS supplement and NHES. A third dropout rate, cohort, will be calculated from HS&B and NELS:88. The HS&B data set will also be used to describe the educational and occupational experiences of individuals who have dropped out of school. At-risk students will be identified through analysis of the NELS:88 data base.
