The Division of Science Resources Studies (SRS) of the National Science Foundation publishes the report, Federal R&D Funding by Budget Function, annually. The statistical tables that will be included in this forthcoming report contain data on Federal funding of the R&D components of agency programs, as proposed by the administration for FY 1997. R&D data are classified into the same Federal budget function categories used in the Budget of the United States Government, Fiscal Year 1997.

Proposed FY 1997 funding levels are for budget authority. The tables also display detailed data on actual Federal funding of R&D in FY 1995 and on preliminary funding of R&D in FY 1996. The tables also provide an historical data series.
