WASHINGTON, DC – Some 30 emerging Russian leaders met with House Foreign Affairs Committee staff members Amanda Sloat and Gene Gurevich on Sept. 26, 2008, at the Rayburn House Office Building. The Russian delegates next head to St. Louis, MO, where they will be hosted by the Supporters of Civil Society in Russia (SCSR). The delegation, cost-shared by Open World, SCSR and the Moscow School of Political Studies, will take part in an intensive program focused on regional-level civic development in Russia.

During the hour-long meeting on Capitol Hill, Gurevich, Sloat, and the Russian delegates discussed the workings of the U.S. legislative branch, the role of committee staff, the current financial situation, and the global economy. The group was joined by Open World Executive Director John O’Keefe and Russia expert Toby Gati, senior international advisor at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP.
