NAEP Website Tools and Applications

The NAEP website features a number of applications designed to give users quick and easy access to questions from previous assessments, performance comparisons, and NAEP assessment data for quick or complex analyses. Read about each tool below, and print Quick Reference Guides if you are a new user.

NAEP Data Explorer. Analyze NAEP data and create tables and graphics.

The NAEP Data Explorer (NDE) creates statistical tables and graphics displaying the results of NAEP assessments, as well as information about factors that may be related to student learning. See the Tutorial and the Quick Reference Guide (961K PDF) to learn how to use the Explorer.

 

NAEP Questions Tool. Search, sort, and print sampe NAEP questions.

The NAEP Questions Tool provides access to over 2000 released questions from NAEP assessments in nearly all subject areas. See how students compare with their peers across the nation. See a Video Preview, Tutorial, and the Quick Reference Guide (614K PDF) about this tool!

 

NAEP Item Maps. See what students at each achievement level are likely to know and can do.

Item Maps help to illustrate the knowledge and skills demonstrated by students performing at different scale scores on NAEP assessments. Explore performance information about student groups by state. See the Quick Reference Guide (1,126K PDF) to learn about using Item Maps!

 

NAEP State Comparisons. Compare state performance by various demographic groups.

Create tables that compare states/jurisdictions based on average scale scores for public school students within a single assessment year, or that compare the change in performance between two assessment years. Learn more in the Quick Reference Guide (347K PDF).

 

NAEP State Profiles. See NAEP performance results and student demographics for each state.

Use State Profiles to explore key data about each state's student and school population, as well its NAEP testing history and results. The profiles provide easy access to all NAEP data for participating states and links to the most recent state report cards for all available subjects.
