"I am very pleased the President initiated this process, of which we have been a part and which has culminated in a set of very concrete and far-reaching recommendations. These recommendations, taken together, will improve the quality and safety of imports into the United States.
Within the jurisdiction of the CPSC, the Action Plan contains several provisions that will enhance our ability to address safety in the marketplace, including the recommendation that Congress require that all products subject to a CPSC product safety standard be certified that they meet that standard. This will enhance our ability to screen imported and domestically produced products for possible violations of our safety laws. Other recommendations enhance our enforcement capabilities.
The Action Plan sets out a robust and collaborative process that cuts across agency lines. It also recognizes the responsibility of the private sector in assuring safety. Implementation of the recommendations in the Action Plan will benefit all consumers."
