NREL promotes excellence in teaching and learning and contributes to improving critical elements of the science, mathematics, and technology education system. Teachers are offered research and development opportunities to enhance their content knowledge, instructional strategies, and leadership abilities.

DOE Laboratory Science Teacher Professional Development (LSTPD) Program

Revitalizing Teachers of Science, Mathematics, and Technology Research through the DOE Academies Creating Teacher Scientists (DOE ACTS) Program is a national program run by the Department of Energy's Office of Science through national science laboratories. The Department of Energy recognizes that teachers are the critical change agents in working to improve science, mathematics, and technology education in our schools.

DOE Pre-Service Teacher (PST) Training Program

The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science Pre-Service Teacher (PST) Internship Program provides laboratory research opportunities to highly motivated pre-service teachers (undergraduates or graduate students preparing to be teachers).

RnE2EW Renewable Energy and Efficiency Education on Wheels

An educational-outreach vehicle partnership between the Department of Energy, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and BP America; RnE2EW is designed to bring to students, teachers, and the community renewable energy & efficiency sciences and to showcase DOE/NREL research and technology. RnE2EW conducts educational outreach events, hands-on activities, and professional development seminars at schools, conventions, competitions, trade shows, fairs and other exhibitions for students, teachers, and consumers.
