NOW PLAYING: CPSC Launches “Drive to 1 Million” Recall Initiative Press Conference

SOUND BITES:

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Acting Chairman Nancy Nord spoke at a press conference on Monday, March 19, 2007, encouraging consumers to sign up to receive free emails informing them about recall news and to check out CPSC’s Web site when they are spring cleaning, to find recalls they might have missed in the last year. (in mp3 format; about 17 megabytes in length) (transcript)

Also, there is audio from Selina Patten, of Manassas, Va., who had a close call when the recalled plastic nail from a Playskool toy tool bench became lodged in the throat of her 3-year-old daughter. She was able to remove the nail before serious injury occurred. She later discovered the product had been recalled after the death of two toddlers, though she did not hear about it. She has now signed up to receive free email from CPSC and encourages others to do so also. Her contact information also is available. (in mp3 format; about 3 megabytes in length) (transcript)
