Nikko America Recall of Radio-Control Toy Trucks

Nikko America, Incorporated, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, wants you to know about a possible safety problem associated with certain models of its radio control toy trucks.

Nikko America is voluntarily recalling about 287,000 of these one tenth scale toy trucks which are about 17 to 18 inches in length. The printed circuit board can overheat and present a fire hazard resulting in property damage and personal injury.

Fortunately, Nikko America has not received any reports of injury.

However, there have been five reports of minor property damage caused by fire and smoke.

This recall is being conducted to prevent the possiblity of injuries. Major toy and department stores nationwide sold the toy trucks from July 2003 through February 2004 for about $60.00

Included in the recall are one tenth scale models of the Chevy Avalanche, model number 100021A, the Jeep Wrangler Rubacon, model number 100022A and 100022B, the Hummer wagon, model number 100023A and 100023B, and the Ford F-150, model number 100024A and 100024B.

The model numbers can be seen on both the vehicle and the retail box.

Speaker: The last thing you would expect is that a toy truck would catch on fire, but it happened. In fact, we've got four reports of these Nikko trucks catching fire.

Speaker: Fortunately these trucks have not caused severe personal injury or property damage. None the less, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Nikko are very concerned about the fire hazard presented by the trucks in this recall. If you have a Nikko truck, you should check now to see if you need to return it to the manufacturer.

If you believe that you have one of the Nikko radio controlled toy trucks covered by this recall, you should disconnect the battery and call Nikko's special toll free recall number for instructions on returning the product for a repair at no charge.
