(Someone opening dishwasher) In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, (green top shelf being pulled out, small plate being put in, shelf pushed back in, then bottom being pulled out and a big plate being put in) General Electric is voluntarily recalling 3.1 million GE and Hotpoint brand dishwashers. (front of dishwasher) The dishwashers were manufactured between 1983 and 1989. Over time, the energy (close-up of finger over switch) saver, heat drying switch (close-up view of switch) can melt (close-up of label on dishwasher which reads: "Hotpoint") and catch fire.

(Open dishwasher, dishwasher being closed) There have been 50 fires reported, seven of which spread (latch on dishwasher being moved) beyond the dishwasher. (close-up of label on dishwasher which reads "General Electric") Three fires involved (close-up of dishwasher dial) structural damage (close-up of switch) to the house or apartment. (front of dishwasher) No injuries have been reported.

(Screen reading: "Model numbers involved: GSD500D, GSD500G, GSD540, HDA467, HDA477, HDA487.") There are six models of GE and Hotpoint dishwashers that are being recalled. (last number in the list has become highlighted in yellow) (dishwasher being opened) If you have one of these models, you should (close of label inside dishwasher door) check the serial number, if the second character in the serial number (small view of dishwasher, lettering underneath picture reads: "Second characters of serial number with potential defects"; lettering on the side of the picture is "A, M, R, S, T, V, Z") is A, M, R, S, T, V, or Z, your dishwasher is a part of this recall. (closed dishwasher, open dishwasher) Look for the model and serial number (close-up of label on the inside of the dishwasher door) on the right (dishwasher being opened) or left front (close-up of small label on the inside of the dishwasher door) edge of the inner tub.
