The aims of the Conference “Climate 2008/ Klima 2008” are to introduce the latest findings on scientific research on climate change, including elements related to its environmental, social, economic and policy aspects; to introduce projects and other initiatives being undertaken in both industrialised and developing countries by universities and scientific institutions, government bodies, NGOs and other stakeholders; and to discuss the problems, barriers, challenges and chances and potentials related to sustainability research projects in general in Europe.
The conference will also encourage more networking and information exchange among participants and hopefully catalyse new cooperation initiatives and possibly new projects.

Why? During its presidency of the European Union (second semester 2008), France wishes to contribute to the debate on the roles of forests and their products in a post-2012 climate regime.

What? The roles of the forest-based sector and perspectives for the future will be discussed under three main headings:
(i) forests as carbon sinks
(ii) wood-based products: carbon pools and energy conservation
(iii) the forest-based sector: source of renewable energy.

How? Invited keynote speakers in plenary sessions, voluntary contributions in parallel sessions or poster sessions.

The 2008 Behavior, Energy and Climate Change Conference is the second annual conference focused on understanding the nature of individual and organizational behavior and decision making and using that knowledge to accelerate our transition to an energy-efficient and low carbon economy. The 2008 BECC Conference will bring together a diverse group of policymakers, social scientists, program implementers, media, and energy experts to explore the practical application of social and behavioral insights to address our climate challenges. We will review recent behavioral research, discuss current and emerging policy issues, share effective program/communication strategies, and encourage collaboration across government, utility, business, and research sectors. Approximately 2.7 billion people - over 40% of the world’s total population - currently live in coastal cities. In 1995 alone, an estimated 50 million people migrated to the coastal zones of the United States. Combined with increasing birth rate and life expectancy, as well as future climate change, the escalating strain on public resources means that coastal city managers face unprecedented challenges. The IOI Coastal Cities Summit aims to bring together coastal city leaders, managers, and academics to discuss environmental, social, economic, and public policy challenges and viable solutions. Deadline for abstract submissions is 15 May 2008.
