Hazardous Air Pollutant Research

Title III of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments lists 189 compounds and compound classes as hazardous air pollutants (HAPs)(also referred to as "air toxics"). The compounds include benzene, toluene, formaldehyde, mercury, arsenic, and polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and are emitted from a wide variety of sources. APTB's activities in this area include characterization of HAP emissions from combustion sources, including coal-, oil-, and tire-derived fuel combustion and investigations regarding how to control these substances from combustion sources.

An on-line list of the 189 compounds (Adobe Acrobat format, 11Kb .PDF Info) is now available.
