Immigration Information Officer

Key Role

As an Immigration Information Officer, you will serve as the face of the Agency to provide counsel to the public about immigration and nationality laws and regulations. Your primary role will be to assist clients in determining eligibility for benefits and providing counseling on what benefits would be most appropriate.

 

Your primary responsibilities may include:

  • Reviewing applications and petitions to make eligibility determinations
  • Consulting with the public to explain eligibility requirements and provide advice on necessary information to complete required forms and include supporting documentation
  • Advising the public on procedural questions to better facilitate the application process
  • Observing and evaluating clients to identify potential attempts to submit fraudulent applications
  • Obtaining and assessing basic intelligence information to identify and report trends to enforcement units

 

Characteristics of a successful Immigration Information Officer candidate include:

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion
  • Ability to research and analyze legal information in order to apply appropriate laws and procedures
  • Ability to articulate information effectively both orally and in writing with people from diverse backgrounds

Training

Candidates selected for the position who have not already graduated from the Immigration Information Officer Basic Training Course (IIOBTC) in Glynco, GA will be required to attend this 4 ½ week course (which includes a 6 day work week) and to achieve a cumulative passing grade on the examinations. Travel expenses for training will be at Agency’s expense.
