Facility-level emissions information is now available in Microsoft Virtual Earth® format for Electric Generating Units (EGUs) in the Mid-Atlantic region. Use the pan and zoom features on the Microsoft Virtual Earth® dashboard to move the map around and/or to zoom in on a particular facility.
Note that this facility-level data was obtained from the 2002 National Emissions Inventory (NEI). The NEI is a national database of air emissions information with input from numerous State and local air agencies, from tribes, and from industry. The map above contains facility-level information for EGUs located in the Mid-Atlantic region (EPA Region 3) which encompasses Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia. Information on EGUs in other states is not available here.

An important feature of this file is that you can tilt the display in Google Earth. Since the height of each point corresponds to the total emissions from the facility, you can identify "big" emitters quickly and easily. If you are new to Google Earth, here is a Google Earth User Guide which includes directions for downloading, installing, and using Google Earth. The above Google Earth file is provided by EPA and is not hosted on a Google Earth server. - Do You Have a Chrome Electroplating or Chrome Anodizing Tank? If you do, the U.S. EPA regulates it.
Important Note: Effective July 19, 2004, EPA promulgated amendments to the National Emissions Standards for Chromium Emissions from Hard and Decorative Chromium Electroplating and Chromium Anodizing Tanks (the NESHAP). This action promulgates amendments to the emissions limits, definitions, compliance provisions, and performance test requirements in the NESHAP. EPA Region III is in the process of updating their "Chrome Trifold or Factsheet" to reflect these amendments to the NESHAP. The amendments can be found on EPA's "Rule and Implementation Information for Chromium Electroplating" web page.
