Gary Weaver
National Director of Communications
Gary Weaver, a career Marine officer and Vietnam War veteran, was appointed National Director of Communications in 1997. He works at the DAV National Headquarters in Cold Spring, Kentucky, near Cincinnati, Ohio, where he oversees all public relations and communications programs for the organization.
A native of Pensacola, Florida, Gary enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1965. He was commissioned in 1967 and served as an air traffic control officer for 10 years. He served in Vietnam in 1969 and 1970.
Gary served as Director of Public Affairs at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina and as an instructor at the Defense Information School, Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. He retired from the Marine Corps as a major in 1986.
Gary first joined the DAV staff as a National Service Officer trainee in Chicago, after working as an investment broker and in automobile sales management.
In 1994, he was appointed Manager of Public Affairs at DAV National Headquarters and served in that capacity until his promotion to Assistant National Director of Communication in 1996.
Gary earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Florida in 1973, and his Master’s degree in public relations from the University of California in 1980.
