Applications
Below you will find EPA's publicly accessible applications. These applications have been developed to help the public access and visualize environmental information.
Air Quality Tools:
-
1999 National-Scale Air Toxics Assessment Tool (NATA 99)
The National-Scale Air Toxics Assessment (NATA) is EPA's comprehensive evaluation of air toxics in the United States. The Assessment Tool is a screening tool that estimates cancer and other health risks from exposure to air toxics. -
Air Quality Index (AQI) - AIRNOW
AIRNOW provides the Air Quality Index (AQI) forecasts as well as real-time AQI conditions for over 300 cities across the US. Also, the application provides links to more detailed state and local air quality Web sites. -
SmartWay Interactive Activity Map
This tool is designed for SmartWay and National Clean Diesel Campaign (NCDC) partners and others interested in transportation energy consumption and emission reductions. This tool enables users to map the locations of specific fuel consumption and pollution reduction projects as well as the locations of electrified truck stops and public alternative-fuel stations.
Water Quality Tools:
-
Better Assessment Science Integrating Point and Nonpoint Sources (BASINS)
BASINS is a multi-purpose environmental analysis system for use by regional, state and local agencies in performing watershed and water quality based studies. It allows users to assess water quality at selected stream sites or throughout an entire watershed. -
Watershed Assessment, Tracking & Environmental Results (WATERS)
WATERS is an integrated information system for the nation's surface waters. Under WATERS, the EPA Office of Water program databases are connected to a larger framework known as the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD). By linking to the NHD, one program database can connect to another, and information can be shared across programs. -
Web-based Reach Indexing Tool for WATERS (WebRIT WATERS)
WebRIT is an Internet-based mapping tool that allows users to submit and update locational data for a wide range of water quality related environmental programs. WebRIT provides point and click tools and displays data from EPA environmental programs, U.S. Geological Survey maps and aerial photos and the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD).
Learn about the Environment in your Neighborhood:
-
Envirofacts Data Warehouse
This application allows users to access several EPA databases in order to view information about environmental activities that may affect air, water and land anywhere in the United States. Envirofacts allows users to learn about environmental activities in their area or generate maps of environmental information. -
EnviroMapper
EnviroMapper is a tool that allows users to map various types of environmental information, including air releases, drinking water, toxic releases, hazardous wastes, water discharge permits and Superfund sites. Maps can be created at the national, state and county levels, and linked to environmental text reports. -
Environmental Justice Geographic Assessment Tool
This tool allows users to conduct environmental justice assessments (EJA), or profiles, for a specified geographic area. The EJA includes statistics pertinent to social, economic, health and environmental conditions. -
Window to My Environment (WME)
WME allows users to create interactive maps and view environmental information for a selected geographic area, and provides links to federal, state and local partners on a variety of environmental issues.
Waste Management Tools:
-
Waste Management Facility Siting Tool
The Waste Management Facility Siting Tool is a Web-based tool that provides assistance in determining the risks associated with the siting of waste management facilities based on the proximity of sensitive locations and potential hazards such as fault lines, floodplains, wetlands, and karst topography.
Other Tools and Resources:
-
EPA Metadata Editor (EME)
The EPA Metadata Editor was developed to simplify and standardize geospatial metadata development across the Agency. It allows users to create and edit geospatial metadata records that meet the EPA Geospatial Metadata Technical Specification Version 1.0. and FGDC CSDGM requirements. Note: This software requires ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 with the .NET Support Feature and Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. -
EPA Site Locator Tool (SLT)
The Site Locator Tool combines interactive maps and aerial photography to help accurately identify the latitude and longitude coordinates of regulated facilities.
