Common Name: Gulf opaleye
Synonyms and Other Names: (Gulf opal eye).
Identification: Miller and Lea (1972); Thomson et al. (1979); Fischer et al. (1995a).
Size: 46 cm.
Native Range: Marine; San Francisco to Cape San Lucas, Baja California (Miller and Lea 1972). Gulf of California (Fischer et al. 1995a).
Nonindigenous Occurrences: Introduced into Salton Sea, California, in 1951 (Walker et al. 1961; Dill and Cordone 1997).
Means of Introduction: Intentionally stocked. Seven fish obtained from San Felipe, Mexico, were stocked (Walker et al. 1961).
Status: The introduction failed to produce a viable population and the species is extirpated in the Salton Sea.
Impact of Introduction: Unknown.
