Common Name: blacknose dace

Taxonomy: available through ITIS logo

Identification: Becker (1983); Page and Burr (1991); Etnier and Starnes (1993); Jenkins and Burkhead (1994).

Size: 10 cm.

Native Range: Atlantic, Great Lakes, Hudson Bay, Mississippi, and upper Mobile Bay drainages from Nova Scotia to Manitoba and south to northern Georgia and northern Alabama (Page and Burr 1991).

Nonindigenous Occurrences: This species is present in the Yadkin drainage, North Carolina, probably as the result of introduction (Menhinick 1991).

Status: Established, probably as a result of an introduction, in the Yadkin drainage, North Carolina (Menhinick 1991).

Impact of Introduction: Unknown.

Remarks: This species may be native to the Yadkin and have a localized distribution limited by physiography (Jenkins and Starnes, personal communication).
