Common Name: dwarf barb
Synonyms and Other Names: golden barb, golden dwarf barb
Identification: A commonly used name is Barbus gelius. Distinguishing characteristics and key were given in Talwar and Jhingran (1992). Photographs appeared in Sterba (1973).
Size: 4 cm.
Native Range: Asia. India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh (Talwar and Jhingran
1992).
Nonindigenous Occurrences: A few specimens were taken from Lake Worth Drainage District canal L-15, adjacent to a fish farm in Palm Beach County, Florida, in 1969 and 1970 (Courtenay et al. 1974; Courtenay and Hensley 1979a).
Means of Introduction: Probable escape from fish farm.
Status: Reported from Florida.
Impact of Introduction: Unknown.
Remarks: This species is in the ornamental fish trade. There are no known voucher specimens.
