Colisa labiosa   Day 1878

Common Name: thicklipped gourami

Taxonomy: available through ITIS logo

Identification: Commonly used synonym is Colisa labiosus. An identification key and distinguishing characteristics were given in Talwar and Jhingran (1992); distinguishing characteristics were also provided by Sterba (1973). This species is very similar in appearance to C. fasciata. A color photograph of live fish appeared in Axelrod et al. (1985).

Size: 8 cm.

Native Range: Tropical Asia. Southern Burma (Sterba 1973; Talwar and Jhingran 1992).



Nonindigenous Occurrences: Collected from a canal adjacent to a fish farm in Ruskin, Hillsborough County, Florida, in 1977 (Courtenay and Hensley 1979a; Courtenay et al. 1984; Courtenay and Stauffer 1990; Courtenay et al. 1991).

Means of Introduction: Probable release or escape from fish farm.

Status: Reported from Florida.

Impact of Introduction: Unknown.

Remarks: There are no known voucher specimens.
