Common Name: rough silverside

Taxonomy: available through ITIS logo

Identification: Smith (1985); Robins and Ray (1986); Hubbs et al. (1991); Menhinick (1991).

Size: 12.5 cm.

Native Range: Marine; eastern North America along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts from New York to northern Mexico (Robins et al. 1986).

Nonindigenous Occurrences: The rough silverside has been stocked as a forage fish in the Amistad and Falcon reservoirs on the Rio Grande River, Texas (Hubbs et al. 1991).  Membras martinica is also established in Red River, Grayson, and Cottle Counties, Texas (Red River Authority of Texas 2001)

Means of Introduction: Intentionally stocked as forage for sport fish.

Status: Possibly established in Texas.

Impact of Introduction: Unknown.
