Common Name: a bryozoan
Identification: There has been much debate over the correct taxonomy of Bryozoans. Presented are some of the taxonomic schemes in recent and current use:
Dense tufted colony 30-40 mm high greyish buff attached to the substratum with rhyzoids. Basal and lateral walls lightly calcified. Frontal membrane occupying 1/2-3/4 of the frontal surface. Embryos yellow (Hayward and Ryland 1995).Phylum Bryozoa; Class: Gymnolaemata; Order: Cheilostomatida; Infraorder: Cellulariomorpha; Superfamily: Buguloidea; Family: Bugulidae (Bryozoan Home Page 1999).

Size: Zooiod about 0.72 x 0.17 mm (Hayward and Ryland
Native Range:
Southern Britain. A species of ports and harbors, occurring on pilings and other submerged structures (Hayward and Ryland 1995).
Nonindigenous Occurrences:
San Francisco Bay, California (Cohen and Carlton 1995; Ruiz 2000) and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (recorded as Bugula californica) (Pearl Harbour Legacy Project). Also collected in the following locations in Hawaii: Wakiki Yacht Club, Ala Wai Yacht Harbor, Oahu; Marine Mammal Lab, Kewalo Basin, Oahu; Coal Pier, Barbers Point Deep Draft harbor, Oahu (Cohen 1999). Established in Puget Sound, Washington (Cohen 2004).
Means of Introduction: Ballast water or ship fouling.
Status: Established in California, Hawaii, and Washington.
Impact of Introduction: Unknown.
