Native Range: Mississippi River drainage north of Arkansas; St. Lawrence drainage to Lake Champlain.

Means of Introduction: May have been introduced via the Erie Canal.

Impact of Introduction: Unknown.

Remarks: Found in varying sizes and speeds of rivers and lakes with sand to coarse gravel bottoms.  Spawns in August and releases glochidia the following July; possible host fish is the freshwater drum.
