Testimony regarding the proposed Public Right of Way specifications - Van
Accessible Parking.
Angled Van Accessible parking spots need to be extended in length in relation to
the angle.
With an angled parking spot one rear corner of the van extends more into the
roadway and/or creates a blind spot if the van has a rear lift or the disabled
person needs to pass behind the vehicle. My own side lift switches are inside
the rear door so I need to get behind the van to open the rear door and use the
switches. Some people have a three wheel cart on a lift stored in the rear.
Drivers transferring to a wheel chair stored in their rear seat need to pass
behind the vehicle to get to the access isle.
Dan and I consulted on the Riverfront Park design for Corvallis, Oregon.
Attached flies ADA Van.jpg and ADA Angle Parking.jpg are the sketches that are
the result of that work.
