I am very dissatisfied with the draft rule on ATS's and truncated domes as
proposed by the Access Board. These audible traffic signals and detectable domes
will be far too expensive for the average city or local government to afford,
and I believe very strongly that neither ATS's nor truncated domes are helpful
or in any way essential for blind people. I am blind and would find the beeping
locators and traffic signals to be disruptive to the sound patterns at most
intersections. I need to hear the sounds of the traffic, and these audible
signals will block out that sound. I am also a senior citizen and those domes
would be very bumpy for me to walk on. I think the domes would be very dangerous
in the cold weather of Minnesota where I live.
Please go back to the drawing board and come up with something far more
practical than this draft rule. Thank you.
