Vulnerable Zone Indicator System

Use this site to access the Vulnerable Zone Indicator System (VZIS), and quickly find out if an address in your community could be affected by a chemical accident.

You can use the VZIS to determine whether the address may be in the vulnerable zone of a facility that submitted a Risk Management Plan (RMP).

Two laws, the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act and the Clean Air Act's chemical accident prevention provisions (also called the Risk Management Program) were passed by Congress to provide you with information on very hazardous chemicals at businesses and other facilities in your community. Much of this information is available on the Internet; other information is available from State and local governments that receive annual reports from facilities.

To use the VZIS: Enter a street address or latitude/longitude on the form fields below. You will receive our response via e-mail, so be sure to include your e-mail address in the box provided.

Note

The personal information you provide will be discarded after it is used for the sole purpose of responding to your VZIS request.

Option 1: Submit Address

Note: Fields marked with asterisks (*) are required unless you submit latitude and longitude information below.

If you do not have an email address, please contact the RMP Reporting Center.

Option 2: Submit Latitude/Longitude

Find your latitude/longitude

The following websites allow you to locate your latitude and longitude:

Type the latitude/longitude in decimal form (latitude = 38.762097, longitude = -76.903631) or degrees, minutes, seconds (latitude 38, 45' 43" N, longitude = 79, 54' 13" W).

Note that Internet-based address finders use various methods and data sources to determine latitude/longitude values, and so values may not reflect the address' precise global position. In addition these values may differ among websites.

Note: Fields marked with asterisks (*) are required.

If you do not have an email address, please contact the RMP Reporting Center.
