Challenger Motor Freight Inc. is the largest privately-owned truck load carrier in Canada. Challenger provides a full range of transportation, logistics and integrated services to Canadian, U.S. and Mexican markets. As a recognized leader in the field of safety, Challenger has often been involved with pilot projects involving safety, technology and environmental issues and has been awarded Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies Award every year since 2001.
Challenger is proud to be a SmartWay Transport Partner and is committed to protecting the environment by:
- Being a LEED® (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Certified Operations Centre. LEED is a point-based rating system, adapted by the Canadian Green Building Council, that awards points for building attributes considered environmentally beneficial.
- Instituting extensive driver training and ongoing education, including ways to cut emissions and increase mileage.
- Utilizing liquefied natural gas powered engines for reduced emissions and improved fuel efficiency.
- Installing and testing auxiliary power units (APUs) on a portion of the Challenger fleet, eliminating the need for unnecessary idling, reducing emissions and resulting in a healthier environment.
- Improving tire life and fuel economy by incorporating Michelin’s E-Chip technology, along with a Hunter side/slip alignment pad, which allows Challenger to check the alignment and tire pressures. By the time the truck stops inside the fuel bay the company can identify, real time over the internet, which tires have high or low air pressure, as well where the alignment is out on any of the three axles.
- Maximizing fleet utilization and reducing power unit road mileage by equipping
Challenger city fleet units with a tracking device that monitors driver’s
exact routes, their idle time, road speed and hard stops.
“We view our participation in SmartWay as another example of Challenger "Going the Distance" for our customers, staff and the general public. Environmental sustainability in transportation is a very important goal for all of us, and one that we take very seriously.”
