Gutierrez Statement on Today’s GDP

WASHINGTON—Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez today released the following statement on the revised second quarter GDP at three point three percent.

"Today’s report highlights the strong economic momentum that has kept our economy moving in the right direction for the past twenty six months of consecutive job growth.

“Many Americans are wondering what impact Hurricane Katrina will have on our economy. Our top priority is to help victims recover from this devastating storm and restore their lives and livelihood. Our economy has shown its resilience in the past in the face of recession, terrorist attacks and corporate scandals and I am confident the fundamental strength of the American economy, as evidenced by today's GDP numbers, will allow us to meet this challenge as well."
