Bureau of Diplomatic Security
U.S. Department of State

July 16, 2004

Two Diplomatic Security special agents helped capture two suspected arsonists on Wednesday, July 14, in Washington after happening upon the suspects as they set fire to a densely wooded area near an apartment complex and a power line.

After witnessing the incident, the agents immediately notified the local police and fire departments. When the suspects fled the scene, the agents followed them to a convenience store and detained them until Renton, Washington, police officers arrived and arrested the pair. The special agents later provided witness statements to the local police.

After the two suspects were taken into custody, the police recovered marijuana and a lighter from the suspects and placed them into evidence. The two suspects, who were minors, were processed at the jail facility and released into the custody of their parents. The case has been referred to the Juvenile Prosecution Division of the Seattle District Attorney’s Office.
