1. Wish to Sponsor in 2008?

Olympic participation is divided in to three levels: Olympic partners (who pay about $40million), Sponsors (who pay $20-30 million), and service providers (companies that offer their services in exchange for sponsorship). The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) plans to complete its Olympic partner plans by early 2005, and is currently looking of mobile equipment, truck transport, healthcare, and internet partners. In early-to-mid 2005, BOCOG will begin looking for sponsors, following by service providers. As these levels have yet to open, companies still have a chance to become official sponsors of the 2008 Olympics. BOCOG plans to have all three levels completed by 2007.

2. Olympics-authorized Products Get Boost

Good news for those of you itching to get your hands on a Beijing Olympic t-shirt... the Organizing Committee is expanding the number of goods that can carry the Olympic brand.

The program aims to showcase Olympic products, while marketing the image of the Beijing Olympic brand. It will also raise funds for the 2008 Games. Special products to go on sale include pins, t-shirts and baseball caps. This year, the Beijing Organizing Committee plans to increase the variety of authorized Olympic products and the number of the retail outlets and franchisers. The International Olympic Committee will also authorize the sale of Beijing Olympic products at overseas franchised stores this year.

3. Beijing to Launch Olympic Volunteer Project

Jiang Xiaoyu, vice-president of the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee says volunteer work for the 2008 Games will soon kick off.

Jiang made the remark at the ongoing municipal People's Political Consultative Conference session.

Volunteer work for the Games includes recruitment, arrangement and training and the Olympic Organizing Committee will post a recruitment notice on its website.

More than 80 thousand volunteers are expected to serve the Games in 2008.

4. Beijing Invests USD 1 million (9m yuan) to Improve Subway Emergency System for 2008 Olympic Games

Beijing has recently invested 9 million yuan (more than USD 1 million) to improve the emergency system for its subway, reported Tuesday's Beijing News.

The report said the fund was used mainly to buy respirators, install blast shelters and fix fire extinguishers for subway stations and crucial machine rooms along the lines.

Meanwhile, passenger escape passages have been redesigned. Emergency illumination system and direction plates have also been installed to enhance the evacuation ease, the report said.

Currently, the No. 1 and No. 2 subway routes are well equipped with warning, smoke emission and fire control systems, it said.

So far, Beijing has seen operation of three subway routes and another elevated train route with 70 stations and a total length of 114 kilometers. Its passenger capacity exceeded 600 million people last year.

The north-to-south No. 4 and No. 5 lines, plus the east-to-west No.10 line are now under construction and supposed to be finished before 2008, when the city will host the Olympic Games.
