Portsmouth Abbey School Wind Turbine

Energy use is the largest source of air pollution in New England and a significant source of water pollution. EPA New England is dedicated to strategies minimize these impacts while maintaining the reliability of the region's energy supplies. As in other parts of the country, energy demand in New England continues to grow. This increase in energy demand combined with the age of New England's infrastructure poses many challenges as we move into the 21st century. New Englanders must be more efficient with energy they use and be smart about developing and siting new and clean power sources.

Through greater energy efficiency and development of cleaner and renewable energy sources, New England can meet its energy needs while ensuring the health of our environment. With more efficient appliances, buildings and automobiles, we can reduce our energy demand with no reduction in the quality of our lives. This will require a combined commitment to energy efficiency and investments in new renewable and clean energy production facilities, such as those powered by wind, biomass, and natural gas.
