Description:

Abstract:
This dataset contains the locations where rock, sediment, water and biological data were sampled for the analyses described in USGS Professional Paper P1652.
Purpose:
This dataset was created in order to have a digital, georeferenced version of the data sampled for USGS Professional Paper P1652.
Supplemental_Information:
There are 10 files in the database created for USGS Professional Paper P1652 that provide additional information about the field sites in this dataset, the data collected at these field sites, the results from this data collection process, and descriptive information about the data and results. These files are: LocationMaster, Project, Sample, Result, Parameter, QualitativeResult, AnalyticMethod, SampleMedia, LabName, and FieldSiteMineSiteAssocs. These files are described in a metadata file called relational_db.html.

Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
The primary method used to check the accuracy of the locational attributes was to plot the sample site locations on Digital Orthophoto Quad (DOQ) plots, and then have them reviewed by the scientist who collected the samples. The non-locational attributes were checked by providing a spreadsheet of the attributes to the scientists for their review.

Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
Field site locations were verified using Digital Orthophoto Quad (DOQ) images plotted at a scale of approximately 1:12000. As a result, the horizontal accuracy of the field site point features is approximately 20 feet.
Lineage:
Process_Step:
Process_Description:
The initial sources of information for this dataset were files provided by project scientists which contained latitude/longitude locations for the sample sites, and a unique SiteNumber. The locations were converted to an ArcInfo point coverage, FIELD_SITES, in UTM coordinates. The sample site points were plotted on DOQ imagery. These plots were sent to the scientists who had collected the samples in order to indicate any necessary changes to their locations. The locations of the point features in the coverage were then corrected based on the annotated plots. Attributes from a variety of sources were then added to the FIELD_SITES.PAT file (see Entity_and_Attribute_Overview section).

Entity_and_Attribute_Information:
Overview_Description:
Entity_and_Attribute_Overview:
This dataset contains 11 point attributes in the FIELD_SITES.PAT file:

SiteNumber - unique identifier for the field site
SiteName - descriptive name for the field site
SiteComment - miscellaneous comments about the field site
ProjectCode - code for project that established the field site
PP_Site_Label - label used for the field site in USGS Professional
   Paper P1652
AMLI_Analysis_ID - identifying number used to group field sites that
are logically co-located for analysis purposes
Longitude - longitude of field site location
Latitude - latitude of field site location
UTM_Easting - UTM easting of field site location
UTM_Northing - UTM northing of field site location
Stream - indicates the stream on which the field site is located, if
   any
SiteNumber, SiteName, SiteComment, ProjectCode, PPSiteLabel, and Stream were all provided by the project scientists who collected the sample data. Logically co-located sites were determined by project scientists. UTM easting and northings were added to the FIELD_SITES.PAT file using the ArcInfo ADDXY command. Longitude and latitude values were calculated using the ArcInfo PROJECT command.
