10/31/05-	SEL announces the publication of a new book by Research Entomologist Douglass R. Miller and University of Maryland Professor Emeritus John A. Davidson: Armored Scale Insect Pests of Trees and Shrubs.     This book provides the most comprehensive information  available on the identification, field appearance, life history, and economic importance of the 110 economically important armored scale insects that are found in the United States and it is available through Cornell University Press.
9/19/05-	Marie Metz, Scientific Illustrator, attended the 2005 Meeting of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators in August.     The Annual Members Exhibition featured two of Marie's digital illustrations of beetles and of leafhopper heads by her intern, Katie Schuler. Marie creates the illustrations for scientific publications by the Research Scientists of the Systematic Entomology Laboratory.
