I'm an exchange visitor at Earthquake and Volcano Deformation and Stress Triggering Research Group since Mar. 2005 to Feb. 2006. My research focuses on the stress transfer after earthquakes associated with the distribution of subsequent aftershocks or large earthquakes. There are two goals of my work, those are:
The characterization of the Coulomb stress change by the specific earthquake: The stress transfer by several earthquakes occurred in the past decade in Taiwan region are investigated and associated with the distribution of the aftershocks or next large earthquakes. Duo to the thrust system of geological setting and dense GPS station and seismogram distribution in Taiwan region, I try to understand the phenomenon of earthquake triggering and seismic shadow zones in this special geological environment.
The aftershocks forecasting: Based on the relationship between Coulomb stress change and the aftershock pattern, I try to analyze the possibility of forecasting aftershock distribution. Increase the accuracy and decrease the processing time of the Coulomb failure stress calculation is the key to achieve this goal.
