I believe audible signals are very important to visually impaired persons. They are especially useful for people who also have auditory problems as well as visual ones. There are signals that work only when the pedestrian pushes the button and many are now being made that have the vibrating button as well as the sound. The best audible signals I have seen, announce "The light is green to cross ---street. The cuckoo sound is not necessary anymore. Audible signals are a great help to people and add another safety feature on top of the pedestrian using their auditory skills to safely cross intersections.
