This email is to let you know that I support the recommendations of the Public Rights of Way Advisory Committee, and ask that YOU DO TOO!

My name is Anne Johnson, and I am labeled as having 'low vision' (max. acuity one eye 20/800 only), use a white cane for mobility, and cannot use public transportation because I cannot get across local streets without these signals. I cannot see lights or crosswalks. Listening to traffic alone doesn't tell me when it is safe to cross. I have to guess when it is safe, and have almost been struck and killed more times than I can count-my mobility instructor (Julia Davis, RSA) and I were almost struck once while we were in training on Camelback, and another time on Bell Road, after I moved to Glendale. I am a student at ASU West, and now use paratransit only, because it is safer than trying to cross local streets. I had an audible signal at Camelback and 31st Avenue, and it really helped me to be more mobile, while staying safe.

Thank you,
Anne Johnson

Just in case I did not include my address in earlier emails on this issue, I wish to add my support for accessible pedestrian signals and detectable signals, per the advisory board recommendations. My name is Anne Johnson, and I am a blind graduate student at ASU West. I need these signals to help me cross city streets and get to my destinations. Please support them.

Thank you!
Anne Johnson
