DoD and GSA Partnership UpdateSeptember 27, 2007 Joint DoD Statement: DLA/GSA Partnership Update In July 2005, leadership at the Defense Logistics Agency and GSA met to explore new partnership possibilities between the agencies. An executive steering committee was formed and three interagency working groups established to explore opportunities, increase efficiencies and better support customers, both internal and external. For more than a year, the Distribution, Acquisition and Customer Engagement working groups have been exploring areas of mutual interest and leveraging strengths, whenever possible, to approach and resolve issues together. The Customer Engagement Working Group recently completed a pilot project at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where the GSA Customer Service Director and DLA Customer Service Representative worked together to improve service, guiding customers to the agency best suited to meet their needs. The success of the pilot encouraged the Executive Steering Committee to approve expanding the effort on a nationwide basis. A joint GSA/DLA memorandum, signed in late September 2007, was distributed to the customer service organizations in both agencies. GSA Customer Service Directors will meet their DLA counterparts in the coming month, discuss areas of mutual interest and work together to improve delivery of goods and services. The Distribution and Acquisition Working Groups are pursuing ways to improve stock availability to customers, reduce costs by consolidating transportation resources and better handle hazardous materials, among other initiatives. GSA and DLA have operating agreements dating as early as 1961. The activities of the partnership working groups continue a long history of cooperation on supply and logistics matters.
