USA/Canada MeetingPosted July 22, 2004 GSA senior executives hosted their Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) counterparts at a meeting held in Washington, DC, June 22-23, 2004. Discussions offered GSA managers information on recent Canadian reforms, and insights into Canada's electronic government initiative, which has been named the best in the world for the fourth consecutive year. Administrator Perry and PWGSC Deputy Minister David Marshall led the talks this year. There were substantive discussions about the two countries’ public buildings, federal supply, technology, e-government, border security and citizen services programs. “I look on this event as a continuation of the long tradition of peace and prosperity between our two nations,” GSA Administrator Stephen A. Perry said. “On matters from homeland security to citizen services, Canada and the United States are anxious to work together and learn from each other in order to improve the quality of life for our citizens.” The talks carried on a tradition begun with the first bilateral meeting in Ottawa in 2003. Three groups will continue discussions over the coming year in the areas of public buildings/real property, federal supply/acquisition, and information technology/e-government. Among other issues that directly affect federal agencies in both countries, the groups’ participants will work on advanced e-marketplaces and electronic tools, portfolio management for public buildings, financing for e-government initiatives, and commodity management.
