Anticipating Future Telecommunication and Networking NeedsPosted February 10, 2004 In 2006-2007, GSA will begin replacing contracts for telecommunication and networking services and solutions to federal agencies. GSA’s new Networx program will be phased in as current FTS 2001, Telecommunications Service (FWTS), and FTS Satellite Service contracts expire. A significant milestone was achieved in October 2003 when GSA released a Request for Information (RFI) to initiate a formal dialogue with industry, federal agencies, and other interested parties. The RFI sought feedback on the proposed Networx strategy and technical and operational requirements. The Networx team is currently analyzing the responses to the RFI. The next major milestone will occur in the spring of 2004 when a Draft Request for Proposals (RFP) will be issued to industry and federal agencies. This will continue the process of seeking feedback on ways to address customer needs as efficiently and effectively as possible. Over the past year, GSA has been working in full partnership with the Interagency Management Council (IMC), which includes telecommunication representatives from 20 different agencies and key GSA leaders. The IMC was instrumental in developing the predecessors to Networx, the FTS2000 and FTS2001 programs. The Networx team is working hard to preserve the GSA tradition of awarding contracts that provide agencies with high quality, low cost telecommunications services and solutions.
