RES. 980) AUTHORIZING THE COMMITTEE ON THE JUDICIARY TO INITIATE OR INTERVENE IN JUDICIAL PROCEEDINGS TO ENFORCE CERTAIN SUBPOENAS _______ February 13, 2008.--Referred to the House Calendar and ordered to be printed _______ Ms. Slaughter, from the Committee on Rules, submitted the following R E P O R T [To accompany H. Res. 982] The Committee on Rules, having had under consideration House Resolution 982, by a record vote of 9 to 4, report the same to the House with the recommendation that the resolution be adopted. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS OF THE RESOLUTION The resolution provides for adoption of H. Res. 979 and H. Res. 980 upon adoption of the rule. H. Res. 979 recommends that the House of Representatives find Harriet Miers and Joshua Bolten, Chief of Staff, White House, in contempt of Congress for refusal to comply with subpoenas duly issued by the Committee on the Judiciary. H. Res. 980 authorizes the Committee on the Judiciary to initiate or intervene in judicial proceedings to enforce certain subpoenas. A motion that the House concur in the Senate amendment shall be considered as pending in the House without intervention of any point of order. The Senate amendment and the motion shall be considered as read. The motion shall be debatable for one hour equally divided and controlled by the Majority Leader and the Minority Leader or their designees. The previous question shall be considered as ordered on the motion to final adoption without intervening motion.'' Results: Defeated 4-9.
