Alexandria Bay Land Port of EntryImportant Note: GSA will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 About The Project:
The proposed project at the Alexandria Bay Land Port of Entry will significantly expand the existing site and include complete replacement of the existing facility. The result will create new circulation patterns through the facility that will enhance its capability and provide safe and secure processing of current and future increased traffic entering from Canada. It is anticipated that this project will greatly facilitate transportation through this important border crossing. The new design will also be flexible and allow for future expansion. The project, located off Exit 53 of Interstate 81, will include the construction of 98,275 square feet of new buildings and facilities such as a new administration building, a new non-commercial secondary inspection building, a new commercial building, two non-intrusive inspection buildings and a new veterinary services building. In addition, the project will provide seven non-commercial inspection lanes, one bus lane, seven primary commercial inspection lanes (with dual purpose booths), and eight secondary commercial dock bays. All existing buildings will be demolished. Construction work will be phased for minimal disruption to the ongoing operations of the existing facility. Tenant agencies of the new facility will be Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Food and Drug Administration, USDA-APHIS Veterinary Services, and the General Services Administration. Coordination with the Federal Highway Administration, the New York State Department of Transportation, and the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority is ongoing. Status: GSA is currently in the design and site acquisition stages of this project. Design will continue through mid-2009. Construction is currently planned to start in early 2010 (dependent on funding) and continue through mid-2013. Work will continue on the design and proceed forward on scheduling, engineering and preparation. Land surveys, environmental studies and geotechnical investigations are ongoing.
