Massena Land Port Of EntryCONSTRUCTION ADVISORY New Massena U.S. Land Port of Entry Throughout the remainder of 2008 until April 2009, the traffic pattern around the site will change to accommodate the remaining building construction. The changes will affect the North & South bound roadways to and from Canada, the General Motors and Alcoa connector roadways. Traffic Pattern Changes as of September 3, 2008 North Bound to Canada: The temporary North bound roadway was changed from its current configuration around the West side of the main building to the permanent roadway on the East side of the main building.
South Bound from Canada: The Southbound lanes from Canada, once past the existing booths, will be routed to the North bound lane in a Southerly direction. There are temporary signal lights and signs directing traffic to Route 37, and the General Motors and Alcoa roadways.
General Motors & Alcoa Roadways The General Motors roadway will change from the previous configuration to the new roadway, with signal lights and signage directing traffic to Route 37, the North & South bound lanes to Canada, and the Alcoa roadway. Alcoa will be accessed from Route 37 with signal lights and signage along the existing inner circle roadway to County Route 45.
About the Project: In addition, following several public meetings with local Tribal Councils and the incorporation of value engineering recommendations, GSA’s team was able to address concerns of the local community regarding access issues through the border and make modifications to the roadway designs. The success of this project is due to great coordination with the New York State Department of Transportation, the New York Power Authority, Alcoa, and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe, Mohawk Council of Akwesasne. Status and Traffic alerts:Work began at the site in July 2007. Local area residents and users of the existing port of entry will be pleased to learn that the construction work will not interrupt the ongoing operations of the existing facility. This is made possible by temporary reconfiguration of the approach roadways, so frequent travelers are advised to be aware of new and changing traffic patterns throughout the construction period. The new facility is anticipated to open in Summer 2009, with all construction completed by Fall 2009. Traffic pattern changes will be posted on this site as they occur. Contractor Information:
