2005 NPT Review Conference

Article VIII provided for a conference to be held five years after entry into force of the Treaty to review the operation of the Treaty with a view to assuring that the purposes of the Preamble and the provisions of the Treaty were being realized. It also provided a process by which a majority of parties could call for additional review conferences at five-year intervals for the same purpose. The latest such Review Conference was held in 2000, in New York. The Preparatory Commission ("PrepCom") for the 2005 Review Conference has met in April 2002, April/May 2003, and April/May 2004.
