Topic: Fatigue (Hours of Service)

NTSB Recommendation: Establish within 2 years scientifically based hours-of-service regulations that set limits on hours of service, provide predictable work and rest schedules, and consider circadian rhythms and human sleep and rest requirements.

PHMSA Action: PHMSA continues its assessment of human fatigue in pipeline operations in a variety of research and standards efforts. The study results are expected in June 2006. PHMSA published guidance in advisory bulletin ADB-05-06 (70 FR 46917; August 11, 2005). PHMSA is awaiting NTSB feedback on P-98-30 and results of its study.
