Statement of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao
On September Employment Numbers
WASHINGTON— U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao issued the
following statement on the September employment situation released today:
“Today's employment numbers show that our nation's economy is still fundamentally
strong, despite the damage done by the recent Hurricanes. Job growth for
July and August was revised upwards, and net national job loss for September
was far less than forecast, although we are concerned about every worker
who loses a job. This Administration's highest priority remains rebuilding
the devastated areas and helping displaced workers get jobs and rebuild their
lives.”
