Labor Secretary Chao Appoints Benefits Review Board Member
Gabauer To Aid In Handling Black Lung, Longshore-Harbor Claims

WASHINGTON—U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao announced the appointment of Peter A. Gabauer, Jr. to the five-member Benefits Review Board.

“Peter’s knowledge of the Black Lung Program and the Benefits Review Board will help expedite and ensure that workers are treated fairly,” said Chao.

Previously, Gabauer was deputy general counsel at the National Mining Association where his area of involvement included the Black Lung Benefits Act, among other areas.

Gabauer was also a law clerk and attorney-advisor in the Office of the Assistant General Counsel for Legislation at the U.S. Department of Commerce, previous to working as an environmental specialist in the Environmental Affairs Division at Commerce.

Gabauer also worked as a legislative assistant for Rep. Hastings Keith, then ranking member of the Interstate and Foreign Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Communications and Power.

Gabauer is a graduate of Syracuse University and Syracuse University’s College of Law.
