ERISA Advisory Council sets July 2007 meetings

WASHINGTON — The Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans and its three working groups will meet July 10 through 12 at the U.S. Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Ave. NW, Room C5310-1B, Washington, D.C.

The full council will meet July 11 from 9 to 9:45 a.m. EDT to receive an update on the activities of the working groups and the department's Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA).

On July 10, the Working Group on Financial Literacy will meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT to hear the testimony of witnesses on financial literacy and the role of employers.

The Working Group on Fiduciary Responsibilities Update and Revenue Sharing will meet July 11 from 9:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT to hear testimony about the implications of the Pension Protection Act of 2006 on multiemployer plans and their fiduciaries, as well as the revenue-sharing practices of defined contribution plans.

The Working Group on Participant Benefit Statements will meet July 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT to hear testimony on benefit statement requirements of the Pension Protection Act of 2006.

The ERISA Advisory Council consists of 15 members appointed to staggered three-year terms by the secretary of labor. The members represent the general public, employers, employee organizations and the fields of insurance, corporate trust, investment management, investment counseling, accounting and actuarial counseling.
