News Release OPA News Release: [04/24/2002] Department of Labor Announces Over $5 Million in Grant Awards to Community Based OrganizationsWASHINGTONThe Department of Labor today announced five National Community Based Organizations will be awarded grants totaling more than $5,500,000. These grants will help to support the participation and involvement of minority communities in workforce investment activities within the One Stop Career system. These community based organizations provide the necessary assistance and guidance to allow minority communities to take full advantage of the resources available to them through the employment and training system, said Emily Stover-DeRocco, assistant secretary of labor for employment and training. The grants announced today will allow these organizations to continue to serve our minority communities and help improve their ability to become active members of the workforce investment system. Organizations receiving grants include The National Council of La Raza, National Puerto Rican Forum, National Urban League, Opportunities Industrialization Centers for America and SER-Jobs for Progress. Each organization will receive a grant to provide training and technical assistance to their affiliates and constituents on workforce matters through meetings, conferences, publications and joint activities.
