Supplemental Documentation...

Vacancy announcements will outline the necessary supplemental documentation required for the position such as licensure, transcripts, or other documents. This page is designed to supply useful instructions to help insure that you provide the information needed to best evaluate your application.

All supplemental documents must be received in FHWA's human resources office by the closing date of the announcement. All announcements close at 12:00 AM (Midnight), Eastern Standard Time. Documents can be faxed to the Washington, DC HR office at (202) 366-3749, Atlanta, GA HR office at (404) 562-3705 and Lakewood, CO HR office at (720) 963-3041. Please include your name and the announcement number on each page of any supplemental document. Without such documentation, an applicant may not receive consideration for the vacancy. Requests for extensions will not be granted.

CTAP/ICTAP eligible applicants are required to submit a copy of their most recent performance appraisal (at least at "Meets or Exceeds" or equivalent) and proof of eligibility, i.e., a RIF separation notice or Certification of Expected Separation, and an SF-50, Notification of Personnel Action, noting current position, grade level, and duty location.

Individuals who wish to be considered through merit promotion, including those eligible for noncompetitive transfer or reassignment, should provide a legible copy of an SF-50, Notification of Personnel Action, that verifies your employment status and highest permanently held grade.

Most professional positions have positive education requirements and require you to submit a copy of your college transcript. Check the vacancy announcement to determine if there is a positive education requirement for the position to which you are applying.

If you are not currently in a Professional Engineering series with the Federal Government, you MUST submit either a copy of your college transcript, a copy of your Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate as evidence of having successfully passed the EIT examination, or a copy of your Professional Engineer (P.E.) license to show current registration as a professional engineer. Without these, your application will be rated ineligible and will not receive further consideration.

If applying for consideration under any non-competitive appointment authority, such as Schedule-A, Excepted Service, etc., all supplemental documentation that establishes eligibility must be provided by the closing date of the announcement.

In accordance with the Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998, veterans who are entitled to veterans' preference or who have been honorably discharged from the armed forces after 3 or more years of active service may apply for vacancies announced through merit promotion procedures when an agency is accepting applications from outside its own workforce. To apply under this authority, you must submit a legible copy of form DD-214, "Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty."
