I am writing on behalf of the Michigan affiliate of the National Federation of
the Blind.
On behalf of the Michigan NFB, I would like to state that we are in opposition
to audible signals except in very specific situations where a clear danger would
present for both the blind and sighted pedestrian alike.
We feel that with proper cane travel skills or proper skills using a guide dog
that the audible signals are not needed except in rare situations. We would urge
the money that would be put into putting audible signals at street corners be
used to help further employment of the blind.
