My name is Kari Getzinger
I have tripped and fallen numerous times of the truncated dome in Tokyo, New
York, San Francisco and now Washington DC Metro Systems. When I moved to
Washington DC I was thrilled to find there were no truncated domes on the Metro
(subway) platforms. I fought the installation of the domes in Washington DC and
as you know lost, due to the ADA and certain Metro System users. I was forced
to use the Paratransit system because of severe safety issue caused by my
tripping over the domes. I came within inches of loosing my job because of the
poor service this Paratransit ("MetroAccess") provides. I now use a scooter to
negotiate the domes, and was promotes 2x after using a scooter Vs the
Paratransit system.
I have found out that many intersections are considering installing the domes at
the end of curb cuts. I want to be involved in fighting these dangerous
"domes". Please put my name on a paper-mailing list. I want to fight this new
restriction of my access to public transit/road ect... I do not want to trip
over the domes
in front of cars turning into me. I do not want other mobility impaired person
to do so either.
Please also inform me of any other organizations that are fighting against the
installation of the truncated domes.
